A Funky Open Plan Family Kitchen

Hello Again! Thanks for visiting our blog, grab a coffee and come take a look at this funky open plan kitchen with us.

The kitchen area was totally remodelled and a beautiful extension was added to the existing building, creating a wonderfully large family kitchen/ dining/ relaxing area. The furniture style is lay-on in a mixture of oak and hand painted ivory.

The velux roof windows and bi-fold sliding doors to the garden flood the space with light and this is reflected beautifully in the surfaces throughout the area such as the black granite worktops and large grey floor tiles.

The space is softened with a corner for relaxing with two large comfy sofas positioned against a striking feature wallpaper backdrop which provided the inspiration for the colour of the accessories throughout the kitchen.

The green glass pendant lights provide a focal point and sit perfectly above the large oak dining table.

The main sink is positioned at the back of the kitchen with a handy prep sink in the island also. The clear glass splash backs are fixed over the green paint colour, providing a simple and practical way to protect the walls behind, they also help to reflect light into that part of the kitchen.

The island has a large curved overhang which enables comfortable seating on the funky high stalls. We also specified a Quooker boiling water tap here for maximum convenience.

As the family are keen bakers we also included a cooks pantry in the design as shown below. It's a really flexible storage/ working area, the bi-fold doors that sit on the worktop can be folded back which allows for full use of the work surface inside. They are great for storing mixers, coffee machines, microwaves, bread makers etc as they can be used in their current stored position and can then just be shut away after neatly.

The kitchen is complimented by the smart stainless steel Miele appliances.

The tall larder below provides maximum dry food storage and is finished beautifully inside with the oak.

The view from the garden where the boundary between inside and out are blurred by the use of a similar floor tile in both areas.

So what do you think about this kitchen? Do you like the finishes and colours used?

Why we love an Aga!

Since we became an authorised Aga showroom two years ago, our love of Aga's has grown and the three oven, pearl ashes one we are lucky enough to have in the showroom has really become one of the family! We love it's reassuring warmth in the winter and as we have the Total Control version we are able to use each oven as we need it so it's perfect for use throughout the summer months too.

It's a pleasure to cook on as it's so versatile and the food retains all of it's taste and colour due to the specialist design of the ovens which use radiant heat. We've cooked a range of things, from jacket potatoes and casseroles to toasted sandwiches on the top (the best toast we've ever tasted!)

The Aga has evolved with the times and the traditional perception it used to have is changing too and we are specifying them in modern homes and kitchens more and more as you'll see below.

If you would like to know more then please pop in and we'd be happy to give you a demo or head over to the Aga blog and follow Lady Aga for recipes, tips and news!

Here's a small selection of some of our projects featuring Aga's.

Contemporary vs.Classic in this Hand Painted Shaker Kitchen

Well here at Planet we've been lucky enough to have been involved in some great projects over this past year and we thought it was about time we shared some of them with you!

This particular project was based in a beautiful period property. The new kitchen area was formed by knocking three existing rooms into one, the Client decided to do this to create a large social space for family and friends to gather. They wanted a modern feel with plenty of light and this was achieved architecturally by opening up the ceiling at the end of the property and installing roof windows along with folding sliding doors to the garden.

The Client knew they wanted the contemporary feel of the new space to be reflected in the kitchen but also wanted it to feel warm and inviting. This was achieved by combining lay-on shaker style furniture in a hand painted finish with walnut features and chrome hardware. The wood flooring from Amtico also added to the warmth of the space.

The clean lines and contrast of the Corian work surfaces define the kitchen area and the light colour reflects rather than absorbs light but without the coldness of stone. To create the peninsula seating area the Corian was effectively wrapped over the furniture which provides a nice contemporary detail if you're looking for something a little different. The wine cooler was fitted in the void underneath.

The stunning stainless steel Falcon range cooker with it's matching splash back and hood makes a real statement and the accessories throughout the kitchen compliment this such as the Perrin & Rowe Ionian tap and the Quooker hot tap also installed.

The owners also required plenty of storage so we designed this beautiful tall furniture to fit along one side. The central unit is a cooks pantry which folds out to reveal a walnut workspace, the walnut was also used for the long wine rack at the top of the unit.

As always accessories are a key part to finishing off any kitchen, the design led lighting and Eames chair add all the right finishing touches to this kitchen which is a great example of classic and contemporary features working well together.

The New Planet Furniture Showroom

Hi All, we've not been on here for a while due to being busy with clients and the refurbishment of our showroom which is almost there now! We are very proud of our new displays and think they really show the diversity of what we can offer here at Planet.

We are now an authorised Aga showroom which is really exciting. We went up to Telford earlier in the year to the foundry where the Aga's are made and it was fascinating to see, we'll save more on that for a later post. We can really see why Aga's remain so popular especially now with the Aga Total Control option which we have here in the showroom so pop in for a demo anytime.

The New Aga Total Control

We are also thrilled about becoming a Miele Studio and we are now showing some built in appliances in one of our new displays. We have attended various Miele training courses which were fun as well as very informative and it gave us the chance to experience the quality, technology and longevity of these appliances first hand.

The Built-in Miele Appliances

We've repainted one of our existing inframe kitchens which we also offer as a service to our clients so if you fancy a colour change then please get in touch for a quote.

The Repainted Inframe Kitchen

We've also expanded the showroom into the shop next door to the right, giving us more frontage and display opportunity. Did you know we also design bedrooms, bathrooms and freestanding furniture? We will eventually be using the upstairs of nextdoor to display these.

Our New Expanded Showroom Front

We still offer our free design and quotation service so pop in or make an appointment for a chat with one of our friendly Designers at no obligation. Please let us know what you think of the new displays and we hope to see you in the showroom soon!
